Concrete for Rural Lots

Hinckley Township sits in the northeast corner of Medina County, directly south of North Royalton, and our concrete contractors cover it as the rural edge of our area. Established in 1825 and named for original proprietor Samuel Hinckley, it is the only Hinckley Township in Ohio. It covers about 26.9 square miles but had only 8,025 residents in the 2020 census, about 300 people per square mile. That low density usually means bigger lots, longer driveways and more outbuildings than in the Cuyahoga County suburbs to the north.

What rural lots need

Hinckley projects tend to be bigger and more varied:

  • Long driveways, sometimes replacing gravel, that must handle snow, heavy trucks and runoff.
  • Pole barn and garage slabs for workshops, equipment and vehicles.
  • Shed slabs for garden buildings and storage.
  • Patios and walks on large back yards, often with a view toward woods or fields.
  • Pads for hot tubs, generators and outdoor kitchens.

Higher ground

Hinckley sits at about 1,033 feet, and the township contains the Hinckley Reservation of Cleveland Metroparks, known for its stone formations. On wooded or sloped lots, we plan grading and drainage carefully so runoff from higher ground goes around new slabs, not under them. On open ground, we make sure a long driveway has enough crown or cross-slope to shed water.

Building a long driveway

A long rural drive is a big investment, so the base matters. We excavate, place crushed stone and compact it in layers. Forms set the slope, and reinforcement ties the slab together. We pour air-entrained concrete, broom-finish it for grip and cut control joints at the right spacing. On a very long drive we may pour in sections. Where the drive crosses a ditch or swale near the road, we make sure the culvert stays open and the apron meets the road cleanly.

Barn and garage slabs

A pole barn or garage slab must carry vehicles, equipment and sometimes heavy machinery. We size the thickness and reinforcement for the load, add thickened edges where walls or posts bear, and set anchor bolts if the building needs them. A slight pitch toward the doors keeps snowmelt from pooling inside.

Spring arrives with the buzzards

Each year on March 15, turkey vultures return to Hinckley, and the township has celebrated Buzzard Day since 1957, drawing as many as 50,000 visitors. For us, that date roughly marks the start of planning season. Pours start once temperatures allow proper curing, and early booking helps when you want work done before summer.

Working with well and septic systems

If your property uses a private well or a septic system, location matters. Before we plan a new driveway, barn slab or patio, we ask where the well, septic tank and leach field are located. Heavy trucks and new slabs should stay off a leach field, and access lids need to remain reachable. Marking these features at the estimate visit keeps the project safe and avoids costly surprises.

Patios with room to spread out

Big yards invite bigger patios. We help you size the space for dining, a fire pit or an outdoor kitchen, plan a walk back to the house or garage, and pitch everything so water drains away. A stamped concrete border can frame a large broom-finished slab without the cost of stamping the whole area. On open ground, we also think about wind and sun when placing seating areas.

Permits

Hinckley Township is in Medina County, not Cuyahoga, so different offices handle permits and zoning than in North Royalton or Parma. We check what applies to your property before scheduling. Call (440) 740-3352 for a free estimate.
